How do I know if I’m eligible to receive Social Security Disability benefits?

Social Security disability benefits are available to those who have worked at least five out of the last 10 years and are no longer able to work because of any “medically determinable physical or mental impairment” which has lasted or is expected to last for at least 12 months or is expected to end in death.

Social Security disability benefits start on the month following the fifth full month of disability.
